AMD produces slightly more [not by loads] heat than P4s - Ive seen it in benchmarks but with decent cooling it can be less My AMD 3500 939 with games runs at a temp of like 32 degrees w/ like 3 case fans and a thermaltake goldenorb2 Opterons are expensive but you wont need that much power anyways - better to buy as said a single powerful CPU For me i like AMD rather than P4s even tho there clockspeeds are more - It doent mean the AMD cant compete - With games AMD rules - Multitasking stuff the P4 are better Dual-Cores whatever the CPU is expensive - but i would go for the AMD The dual-core AMD chosen would severely destroy anything-lol
A Pentium Celeron u jking-lol We not talking about celerons they are very very crappy compared with these cores that are 64BIT and dual cored
To whoever said that theres no performance difference; Yes there is, the cards it easily overclockable to 2.5 x 2 if one core was running windows and the processes, and the other left free just for the game of course it would be better. Games are already starting to support dual core, F.E.A.R is the first example. Patches might be made for current games, so the dual core really is the way to go. Ordered mine today Amd's are far cooler then P4's... dja
In terms of gaming, yes. Intel are faster at something like video encoding, but amd's run cooler and use less power. So atm. Amd > Pentium dja
what are you smoking, P4s run at 45C while Athlons run at 35C, the whole reason why Pentium 4s are being discontinued is because thye have probl;ems with heat. Athlons were running hot compared to P4s in 2003 though so you have me there, but any athlon proc made within the last two years doesn't have that issue. P4s are crap, noone in their right mind would recomend a P4 over an Athlon at the same price range. I am waiting for Yonah and Dothan(Pentium 3/M based dual-core procs) FUN!!! more fun!!! atleast now it doesn't kill the chip... wait with that much power going through the motherboard it fries EVERYTHING ELSE! Read it, you will learn... p4 == crap http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_4 IMO, PIII [aka Pentium M] > everything
