get - x2 3800+ msi k8n neo4 Platinum 1gb corsair value x800GTO x800GTO's are better than 6800vanilas and bellow. Its a great card if you get the gecube x800TO or Sapphire GTO2 you can unlock it to a x850GT which is easy.

Overclock = bad for processor which makes it last less and if done wrong can ruin so I wanna stay away a bit..
it only last less if it is too hot. you can easily overclock a 3800+ to 4200 or 4600+ speeds without it going above 50celecius because the x2s run <30 at normal load. In games 35-38, they are cool processors.
yea , but athlon 64's death point is 65*c compared to athon xp's 85*c they run cooler but they die at a cooler temp too..
The fan / heatsink that come with the amd is good enough for overclocking unless you really want to push it. You don't really need any special cooling for it, just make sure you have a few fans and air space. About how to do it, basically you go into the bios and slowly increase the speed. Run a cpu intensive game / program to make sure theres no artifacts / temperature issues. It simulates game conditions using the latest shaders etc. 3d mark is a good test which i use http://www.futuremark.com/ I also use lavalys EVEREST home edition, which shows you temperatures of hardware etc. You can download it here http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en Just install it, load it up, click computer in the main bit, then click sensor. It tells you motherboard temp, cpu, gpu, gpu ambient and hard disk temperature. It also shows information about how fast your fans are spinning and voltage. ^ Very good program dja
Ahh thank you...Whats around the normal temp of these things after a small overclocking? Like I would make my 3800 go to 4200 at the most.. By the way, in the BIOS just go to where it says CPU speed and bring it up there I suppose? How do I know what to increase it by cuz on my computer now it just has like 100-133 Also, how is the GeFroce 256MB 6200 OC DDR AGP gfx card for just 100 bucks?
I'd go X2 3800, 1gig of the GOOD ram(for overclocking, if you don't want to overclock you could probably get away withthe cheaper stuff) the 6600(have a friend unlock a few of the pipelines too, make it into a 6800, heh) case no idea, motherboard, didn't look at. if you don't have the cash to make the jump to the 4400, you won't reap any real benifit from the 3800 to the 4200, only diference is clock speed. most games don't use past 128mb vram, my 128mb 9250 card is almost never full. 256mb vram is absurd, it's like jumping from having 2 gigs to 4, there is no real performance boost after a certian point and by the time you do need the extram ram, you might as well get another GFX card because you can't handle anything anyway. I'd suggest the 6600. if you aren't into linux nor plan on becoming into it and want some bang for the $, MSI makes a mobo with an ati x200 integrated into it, my friend gas it can play HL2 on medium with acceptable FPS(between 40-60 most of the time) not a good setup for doom III though. FYI, for overclocking, unless you crank up the voltage it won't affect your processors life too much, nor the heat... (won't be abel to OC too much but maybe 200mhz worth, make it into a 4400 for free) FYI, by the time to proc disintegrates from a mild overclock, it will already be obselete(think back to the old Tbirds or early P4s in 01... then go back another year or two) As for getting windows XP, find someone with the same disc as your current setup, then install from that and use the serial from your old system
