Can I combine several shape layers (i.e. layers with vector masks) so that one layer has many vector shapes on it? What if the shapes are of different colors is it impossible to have them diff. colors but all on one layer?

i don't quite understand the question..but i think all you need to do is layers>flatten image

No I meant as in. You make a shape layer, with vector mask...Then you make another shape layer, with more vectoring...Then how do I combine the two without losing the vector qualities of those shapes.

try rasterizing the first layer and keep adding on.

Then you´ll lose the vector qualities ;)
