My computer is very slow lately. I have a pentium 4 processor so that shouldnt be the problem. I have Norton Antiviris, its updated weekly. I use Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy which are also updated weekly. I cleaned my registry also. I just cant get it faster. The internet is at dial up speeds even though i have high speed internet. Is there some hardware or software for me to buy so I can return it to the speeds of when I bought the computer? Im not that smart on these things so any tips would help me out.

Simply to much background applications, if you really want get rid of the problem just re-install windows you can also check

    - If you hard drive disc is full or nearing full
    - Your RAM isnt sufficient (256MB isnt a good standard 512MB-1 GB is a good target for your RAM :)
    - Delete some software that might slow your CPU

    Hope something works :)

no. thats not alot although mine is only a p3 and 129 megs ram and i have soo much stuff mines running using 23% ram. But try uninstall some of the program you don't use and run a disk cleanup and defrag that should solve your problem!!

Reformatting or using TweakXP is the best.

What's the clock speed of the P4? the early 1.2GHZ P4s can be outperformed by 700mhz P3s in some conditions. Also, you issue is likely spyware based. More ram though is a good thing, a 30$ strip of ram will make your computer almost unbeleiveably faster because the reason only 43% of it is used is because it's sending data off to your hardrive to be used which is rather slow. more ram = less of that. 768mb of ram should be sufficient assuming your computer can handle it.

If you are using Internet Explorer and the window comes up slow and doesn't respond then get FireFox. If its just plain slow then just use system restore and go back to a point where it was really fast. I hope this helps ^_^

I presume you mean that your internet speed is slow.

In that case I recommend power cycling your modem. AKA unplug and replug after a minute.

I have an avarage of 10-15% of my RAM used. So you might consider upgrading it. :)

Good luck, small note: Extra RAM doesnt always is a solution it just allows you to do more multitasking.
