I'm getting new specs soon so I would like to know the components I should get. My Budget is 650 € = 767 $US This is what I want: AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2x512 Mb RAM (Tell me which) Motherboard (Socket 939 Compatible and CHEAP!!) I'd suggest getting 128mb for a card. most games don't even use past 90mb ro so 256 is more expensive and overkill. if the price diference isn't much then go 256. I suggest getting an ATi x1600 though if you aren't going SLi The x2 3800s are crap though FYI, I'd rather get a PD 3.0GHZ whjich will outperform it for less$. EUGH.. pentium 4s...
the x2 3800 aren't crap lol They are much better than 3.0 Ghz P4! I want to get a 256 Video card since I want my comp to run future games smoothly

I said Pentium D, which would be two P4s in a sense... benchmarks put it above the 3800+ because the 3800+ has very little L2 cache(512kb per core oppsed to the 1mb in most other dual core procs) I am an AMD fan myself, I am currently using a socket 754 3000+ the 3800+ runs circles around my system, I am not doubting that. What I was saying though is that the 4400+ is far better in terms of performance but it's a little out of your price range. if you want bang for the $ in your price range go for the 3.0GHZ Pentium D, if you want upgradeability, try a lower-end single core A64(939) and consider upgrading in a year or so when dual core procs have decent software support. The 3800+ won't disapoint you, it ijust isn't as good at the Pentium Ds due to the fact that it has crappier core architecture, less cahce and lower clock. the manchester core on the 4800 just isn't in the same league as toledo. ================= disregard that, I looked through some more benchmarks, 3800 was slightly outperformed by the 840, not the 830(which is in the same price range) get the 3800 as for needing more Vram, dude, by the time cards need more ram to run future games, you card would have been obsoleted anyway. It's like putting 8gigs into a system right now, you won't see any real performance gain over using 1 0r 2 gigs and by the time you do need that much ram, you need a new setup anyway to be compareable. 64 is considered the min right now for decent gaming, but 128 is generally prefered because it's a bit to the overkill side just to be safe. again, by th time you have games requiring that much vram, you would need a new card anyways so what would it matter? FYI I'd take a 128mb 6800 over a 256mb 5700 anyday, vram in graphics cards isn't all too acurate in indicating their performance, you have to take into consideration the cards clock speed, it's core architecture, the speed of the ram along with a whole other variety of factors. Again, I suggest ATi x1600
I just checked and decided to get this: SVGA 256MB XFX 6600GT PCX DVI SLI (Video Card) 240 € I dunno the processor yet, trying to decide between - CPU INTEL P4 3.0 GHZ D830 SK775 DUAL CORE 64BITS - 361.92 € - CPU INTEL P4 3.4 GHZ M650 SK775 800 MHZ 2MB 64BITS - 300.95 € - CPU AMD ATHLON 64 3800+ SK939 D-CORE - 360.53 € I'll need a new compatible motherboard
If you need a mobo try a Asus brand mobo, they are the cream of the crop. As for RAM corsair is good but really pricy, in the end you probably wont want because it's not as cheap as other RAM sticks u can get. (which will run fine btw, aslong as the mobo is compatible, but as I suggested, an Asus brand motherboard) Now your graphics card... well can pretty much be anything out right now. Do some research (check up for reviews and benchmarks)
