Mysql

Are there different kinds of MySQL?
I've heard of a site that gives free MySQL. Could if be of any different quality than others?
And whats the deal with databases..I'm using this for my forums but I dont know how many different databases I would need or whatever.

I dont feel like getting my host to get me my mysql unless I really should.
And sorry bout the questions I'm just clueless on MySQL

 

MySQL is free to them, doesnt cost them a penny. it is also one of the easiest. If you have CPanel, it's easy as tying your shoes..

is it whatever OS I have, or my hosting service has (which I dont know) or what?
(might have a late responce since I'm gonna go eat in a few minutes back in 10)

and I only have FTP

 

you dont install it, your host has to install it... there is a way to set up mysql on ftp, but im not familiar with that..

mySQl is a database prgram basically, so thats what the "deal" with them is. Software stores information in them in things called tables.

For a forum alone, you would most likely only need to use one database.

And yeah, mysql is free. Its open source, so I suppose there could be different versions out there of different quality...

 

Well, think about that now, nothing is free, it is taking up space on the server.

Edit in response to post below: 1%? Guess you don't have a lot of data in your database. Either way the % would depend on the drive.

 

yeah, it really takes up 1% of the drive... that's alot.
