You Should Get A Chat Room.

IRC Channel would be cool and I would use it.

 

There has been an IRC channel a few months ago but it never really took off, possibly due to few people knowing about it.

I'm not an expert with IRC though so if anyone wants to attempt to setup a GR channel then feel free to - i'll give it the advertisment it needs.

 

Well if you tell me what network to make a GR channel on ill be happy to do it.

chat slows the forum down

a shoutbox would be coool, i dun think IRC will take off. The last one we had was dead, becuase most ppl dun't have it or they dun't know how to use it.

 

Unfortunately, dependant upon the script, chat rooms can take up a lot of server bandwidth. This would mean slower downloads in the future and potentially cutting down on some of the features you already enjoy.
I think a shoutbox could serve as a comprimise to this problem. It allows almost instant replies and global forum discussion. As sensi explained, the previous IRC channel wasn't exactly very popular, a more structured system such as a shoutbox would suit the forum better.
