First one still has a white line around it .. but can probably be taken away with a defringe .. but the 2nd one is totally prem ^_^
Well. i think it's all about luck, experience and taking your time. I did those two in about 15 hours total (9 hours first, 6 hours second). You need to have an eye for the color-differences. I used extract on those two. but i'm learning the polygonal lasso tool, as we speak. But there are very good renders, even better than mine. If you have access to premium section. you should take a look at the Render Of The Week topic. Those are all superb high quality. I got second with my second picture (the girl on the pole). So imagine how good the winner would look.
