    I have a GeForce FX 5500 with 256MB DDR

    it has DVI, S-video, and VGA connections.

    I was wondering... if i bought a DVI to VGA adaptor, could i hook another monitor up to it and be able to dual screen them, or do i have to get an extra pci card to do it?

    I've only done it at school, during a lab, using 2 pci video cards. other than that, ive never done it...

    don't say my card sucks, just help me get dual screened...

    For me i plugged the extra monitor in and restarted the computer.

    When i had installed the nvidia drivers, after i had restarted a setup thing came up, guiding you through the stages. If not;

    Go to your display options - settings - advanced - Should be a tab saying "Geforce fx 5500" click that - the "nview display settings" on the left and click detect displays.

    Where it says "nView display mode" you can choose how you want the two monitors to act, dualview, clone etc.

    Primary display is which monitor you want the taskbar / programs to open on, or if you want the taskbar to cover both of them.

    Hope that helps.

    I dont see what the point is, its just wasting money, just go out and buy yourself a 21 inch flatscreen monitor.. It'll cost about as much and is just as useful.. Theres no point to two.

    Actually there ARE several advantages to dual screens. I'm guessing you have never tried it or you wouldn't be saying that. And you don't have to buy a new monitor, you can use an old one and still have the benefits.

    Hmm, as far as i know, you don't need both monitors plugged into DVI
    The other monitor can be plugged into the other slot. On the review of your card, theres a picture of the back of it. It shows the blue and white slots.

    I think what he was trying to say is that you can use DVI for one, and VGA for the other. ;)

    You edited your post while i was replying. You can use a VGA cable.

    i.e DVI and VGA ;)

    Thanks for the +Rep :)
