This is so stupid look at these - Minimum - 512MB DDR2 RAM SATA I with NCQ 128MB Gfx Card (Pci-E only) Recommended - 2GB DDR3 RAM SATA II with NCQ 256MB Gfx Card (Pci-E only) Thats rediculous, AMD's dont even use DDR2 yet because its horrible up until high speeds where the timings become better. DDR3 wont be released for up to 18 months. And it wont support AGP even though there is rumours about AGP 16x to compete with pci-e (an intel invention). Wow Vista Beta 1 requires only 3ghz CPU, 512MB DDR Ram why can they just not stick with that. I think I will stick to Xp even when Vista comes out. Oh and I got the specs from the latest APC Computer Magazine.
Sounds like a lie, and a big one... Only trust what MS says, not some Computer Magazine... they have no idea what is going on in MS Labs.. I'm quite sure it will be able to use regular DDR and AGP slots... people are so serious, they think everything they read is the utter truth.. edit: not true... from microsoft: Minimum system requirements will not be known until summer 2006 at the earliest. However, these guidelines provide useful estimates: • 512 megabytes (MB) or more of RAM • A dedicated graphics card with DirectX® 9.0 support • A modern, Intel Pentium- or AMD Athlon-based PC. source: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/newsroo...staBeta1FS.mspx (very bottom of page) edit2: plus, its not even fully out yet, so how can anyone say what the requirements are?
It's not 100% true... it's not even out yet, people... stop making remarks about it when it hasnt been finished yet..
AMD is supposed to be releasing processors with support for DDR2 on their next processor socket in 06, though I persoanlly don't see the point. Again, I beleive some of these specifications are more exagerated than needed. Yet another reason I plan to wait to build my dream PC(well budgetted but still) until a bit after the 65nm manufacturing process is out and Intel has released conroe(I like to keep my options open, though conroe seems more fit to be a laptop CPU than a Desktop CPU, "Performance per watt" my ASZ) This is what I am looking to build in 1.5 years AMD Athlon X2 4800+(or better) 4gigs dual channel PC3700(or up) ram 2* ATi Radeon X1800s(or better) 2* SATA II hardrives in RAID0 Windows Vista with Linux as secondary OS
^AMD Socket M2 will be out next year and the 4800 will be outdated alot. Socket M2 will have DDR2 however it is a waste as it performs poorly at lower clock rates until you get to 833mhz. x1800s will be outdated by Feb. when the new 32 pipeline 1gb Ram gfx cards are released. I wouldnt get vista because of drm.
I actually wait a year or two before buying the product. By then all the hardware and software bugs are worked out. Example, I bought XP Pro in 2003, two years after they put it on the market. look at it now, about 90% of it fixed... (10% is probably IE)... Just be patient, buy it after the major bugs are fixed, and you'll have a better computer and OS.. edit: normally by then, the prices go down a bit...
it wont be out for a year and I gather you will upgrade eventually. And the general rule is to not buy hardware or software until 6 months after its release so they can iron out the bugs and see how good it is (except for gfx cards).
so your saying my economy setup will suck in two years? man... that is a sad day... especially since I said or better... I might only be able to get 200 FPS on HL2 at max with that setup... woe is me. if you think about ti thoughm most hardware actually surpasses the demands of software now so why should it matter really?
Here at college we have - P4 1,4 Ghz - 256MB DDR RAM - Geforce MX 400 With basic system specs. LAN card, 2x USB very simple and basic. Vista works on almost every simple system.
