Maybe they wanted to see your skill level past your current. That's why I think ppl could do a quick search on any sigs you've posted. That's what I do sometimes.

That and I think it's better to have both entries sent to a 3rd person, like a referee. That way both ppl don't see each others sigs before the battle. And none would go back and change it for a better sig or back out.
That's what I did for a contest I held.
