but this topic isnt realli about dling illegal stuf... more bout computer safety and security

edit: so does any1 kno anyway to protect urself from hackers and stuff while torrenting? issit also tru that u get lotsa trojans? cuz thatas a pretty big rumor [/b][/quote]
We aren't talking about how to use bittorrent to obtain files illegally, were talking about how to protect yourself from hackers while your ports are open :)

Plus, there are plenty of legal things to download with torrent. A lot of sites distribute their products using torrent trackers. As well as anime fansub groups, and fansubbing is only illegal once the anime has been liscensed to a company in the US as far as I'm concerned/know :P I don't think the Japanese companies care too much lol

yep, we are only talking about how to secure your computer, not how to get illegal files.

this is what I do on p2p as well as BT:

    1. have Sygate Personal Firewall on.
    2. have my AV's on
    3. Open ports
    4. download a file
    5. run a virus scan on that one file (I use Avast and AVG)
    6. close ports

Is Sygate Personal Firewall free, or is there just a free trial?

IMO BT is alot safer than normal p2p proframs eg Kazaa and emule. just go to trusted sites and get your torrents and scan your trackers/files before you get to it.

first of all you never no where any torrent is coming from they are all uploaded by people ok ? so you cant say some are safer than others. 2nd i have been downloading using p2p torrent i been doing this all for 4 years i been using computer for 7 years NEVER GOT A VIRUS i dont really think they are out there i probably downloaded everything you will ever need in one life time. And the only way you can get a virus in my opinion is if you get it purposley. But if you have antivirus then it should find it as soon as you download it no prob i dont understand you people and your viruses

As soon as you open a port that mean you have 1 more place for the hacker to get into your computer. It's as simple as that.
