Get the nvidia 7800gt instead cuz its supposed to BOOst the performance of the 7800. Lose the 120GB HD. Get a 50GB one. If ur a gamer get 1024 ram .if ur not a gamer get 512Mb..not less than that

to save you from the agony of upgrading crap i suggest waiting a bit for DDR2 to come to an Athlon-based motherboard and then buy an Athlon 64 X2 since DDR2 is not expected to be supported with Athlon 64. I wouldnt get 1.5GB, only 1GB at most otherwise dont bother getting the video card because if you are gonna get that much memory, at least back it up with a superior video card.

If you are able to spend like 10 more bucks on a hard drive to max it to 200GB, do so unless you are just going to use the comp for work and not downloads, games, etc.

but baseline of suggestion: wait for DDR2 supported Athlon motherboards

get dual channel ram... you will notice a huge performance gain.. that means you must either get (2*512) or (2*1gig) single channel is an abomination if you are geting an athlon ebcause it is only half as fast

the 7800 also costs 200 more

any way he said he was getting a gig and a half of ram

if it were me i would just bump it up to 2 gigs, and get a dual core processor, but since you have a limited budget i think you have the best possible configureation for that proce range

LOL thats like the same PC i got :D except i got a 200Gb SATA HD and 1GB DDR RAM :D its a decent setup for that amount

People who are suggesting 7800GTs and Dual cores - THey are expensive for the amount of budget he is and once hes got the basic setup good and got cash then he cud buy it but not straight away

I suggest you learn whatt DDR 2 is...

it tends to cost more, and it's latency is utter ----(congrats, you pay more for the same amount of memory at the same clock and it performs worse).
On Intel Chips this doesn't mater, But AMD chips get a good performance boost from having low latency and good timings.

Anything past 500mhz dual channel is a waste and guess what? they make DDR in the 500mhz flavor just aching to be put into dual channel configuration for 1GHZ of FSB. if anything wait to tell this guy to breath well after assfixiation occurs, lord knows he doesn't remember to breath of his own will.

RAM itself comes in several varieties, EDO(ancient comps) Sram(ancient), Sd ram(pretty old, means synchronized data rate) rambus ram(obselete because it was costly for it's performance and put out less per clock) and ddr sdram(often abreviated to DDR, it's the current standard developed by AMD for its processors back in 2000, it performs twice as many calculations as sdram per clock and is capable of higher clocks) and DDR2(developed by intel for high clock speeds and low performance per clock, sounds framiliar doesn't it?)

Does it work good smoothly ? and AMD efficient ? :D

Oh the reason why I dont go for DDR2 is because the latancy is just to high, these DDR rams are tested to be 1 of the best that are out there, this PC is meant for gaming, and no im not getting a 7800 its just to high in price for me.

Im not goin to the AMD Athlon FX series because its to expansive aswell, and im not into 1 CPU dual core, I rather have a dualcore motherboard with 2 CPUs :)

    Any adives further \?

anyways, it runes bf2 very smoothly

and dont get 1.5gb or ram, either get 1gb or 2gb, not 3 sticks of 512 :\

Yep get either 1x1GB STICK OR a 2GB Stick :D

Or you could use 2x512 or 2x1GB :D

Dont use like odd numbers like 3x512 to get 1.5 - Go for 2 sticks leave the other 2 slots empty unless u wana fill with high 1GB sticks and maximise ur mobo memory capacity
