i was just wondering... i use bittorent a lot and i haf opened my ports and the speeds went wayyyyy up. but every1 is talking about gettting trojans and things so i was wondering.. how dangerous isit? like if u dl off random torrents (not totally random but u dont kno if the source is good or not) is there a high chance of getting viruses etc? do firewalls help if u open the ports?

    THNX

having the ports open means someone could easily crawl into your computer. I once opened all the ports on his computer so do a hack and he was fine since I only did it for a short while.

i recommend that u keep your ports open while torrenting, then clsoe them when not torrenting, its just for safety measures

i, myself, do not care, i believe my firewall and antivirus can protect me :P

If you use bittorrent I would make sure that you

    1) Have a Anti-Hacker index
    2) Have a good Anti-Virus program
    3) Have a firewall (Although it won't help since your ports are oepn XD)
    4) Make sure you use a trustworthy torrent search, and not use random trackers.

Although there is always the chance of someone crawling in and making your computer their new home

Well, I kind of made a stupid assumption that you use McAfee, they use something called an Anti-Hacker index to prevent you know. Hacking.

Anyway, just get some hacker protection :P

I don't think this should get closed, as long as Chadwick removes the names of the torrent sites.

Also, and I know I'm not asking anything illegal, but how do you exactly open your ports?

    :) Removed them.

Anyway there are a few ways to open your ports. The one I use is going into the setup for your Hub and going to the port page and setting them up there. I think there are also some utilities you can download to do it.
