Well im in need of a new PC. I dont know how to build them, but i do know how to add ram, 2nd HD, etc. So if someone can help me find a decent PC and maybe some parts to add on it would be appriciated. I can only spend about $600-700 USD at the moment. My price range may go up though. Here are a few things i had in mind: Processor - Intel Pentium 4 Hard-Drive - 80GB RAM - 512MB, at least. Mouse - Optial, no USB Keyboard - Standard, no USB Note: This PC is for general computer use, surfing the web, maybe using Photoshop. But nothing big. It will not be for gaming. Edit: I was thinking about the Dell Dimension E310 or 3510. The E310 is basicly what i want, Pentium 4, 80GB HD, and 512MB RAM. Although for only about $50 more i can get the E510 which has a 160GB HD. I dont know if i would ever use that much as i only have a 40GB right now and its not even half full.
If it were me, I would get the 3510 if it were me, but if you aren't going to use the space, I would get the E310 unless you want to be able to brag about your HD size lol.
definitely get a bigger hdd, 40gb is kinda small, to me anyways i have a 250gb, which i dont really need , but i got like 100gb full or so?
No matter what, i most likely will be upgrading my RAM to 1GB. The HD, i mean i have 40GB right now and im using less than 20. I have no doubts that 160 is good, but i really dont know if its worth it when i can just get 80GB. Also, i believe they come with USB keyboards which i dont like, but i can always keep my old one
whatever you do dont get a dell, or a brand pc for that matter. In the case of dell you get what you pay for, a pc with no upgradeablity, and then for other brands you pay hundreds for the brand name. I would suggest building - Amd 64 3500+ MSI K8N Neo4/SLI 1gb (2x512mb sticks) Corair Value RAM 120Gb WD Sata drive Sapphire x800GTO
If you know anything about whats good with a Pentium 4 processor that would help a lot. I dont plan on getting an AMD, also i have never built a PC before. My dad is good with them and i believe he knows how though. But if it comes down to me doing it, i can put the parts in the right places i think, but if it would work or not i have no clue
if you're going the intel route, I suggest a 3.0 GHZ P4 with HT, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819116198 1gig dual channel ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145526 a 80gig 7200rpm SATA hardrive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822148040 Decent Motherboard 4gig ram support http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813130516 Windows XP 64 pro http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16837102034 take advantage of that 64bit processor this isn't something meant to be overclocked(just get better ram insteed if you care about overclocking), but pentium 4s weren't meant to be overclocked anyway... I didn't add the prices, but they should be ablout in there excluding the case/PSU, but you can find a combo on that stuff for like 50$ and if you need a graphics card, again, you can buy a cheap one. EDIT: since it is your first, make sure you ground yourself. touch the case before putting in anything. wear a grounding strap if you can.
Why not get a Pentium 4, i have that now and it seems to be fine. I mean why go back and get a 3? Also, grounding strap, thats a joke right? If not im totally lost here Im quite possitive im one of the worst people to even attempt building a PC here.
most people say not to because P4s cost a bit more, but if you intend to not use the PC to game it can actually be more bang for the $ I personnally have an Athlon 64(and love it) FYI, Pentium 3s(now known as Pentium Ms) have better core architecture than P4s at 2GHZ they outperform a 3.0 P4(overall, but mostly in gaming, not quite on the same par for video encoding though, unless you go dualcore), same for athlon 64s. a grounding strap is a little strap you put around your wrist when working on PCs, it is attached to grounded object, or even the case, it's used to prevent you from shocking your components and frying them.
Well i added up your items you suggested from my specs i wanted. It came out to about $450. Now with a Graphics and Sound card, Speakers, Monitor, and Case. This is going to be well over a Dell Desktop that meets my requirements. Edit: Oh didnt know about that. I thought by grounding strap you were just yanking me Also, if its not connected to an outlit and unplugged, how would anything get shocked or fried? I mean there shouldnt be any electricity going through yet.
Look at this stuff Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103533 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136159 VideoCard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814122207 ill look for the rest tomarrow, and maybe change a few things here and there.
I strongly urge you to go with amd as they are clear market leaders in every department at the current time. With the gfx card handhelfsquirrel picked out I would get a 6600GT instead of that because that is just a vanilla, it can be unlocked to a GT but I if you dont have much pc experience then you will have trouble.
www.pcspecialists.com is just a domain thats for sale. Go there and you will see that they are only selling it. Alright, i guess i could go with an AMD. I can still use Windows on AMD correct? I mean a lot of programs i have and may want i usually only see for Windows and not Linux or anything.
