Okay right now I have a SATA hard drive in my computer which is my main hard drive. I want to add an Ultra ATA hard drive which I use to use for my xbox. I already unlocked it so it can be used in a computer so that part is fine. Is it possible to have a SATA master with an IDE slave?
I dont understand 1 thing how is the SATA connection gona fit into a IDE slot whichi think is impossible -lol Different connectors SATA goes only into SATA connectors - I think if u want the Ultra SATA as ur master put that in slot 1 and the other SATA drive in slot 2 as your slave Check if ur mobo can support it and im sure on the mobo it should say either master - slot 1 and slot 2 etc - Follow your Mobo Manual to see in detail
I know they are two different connections but I don't have mobo manual I have a pre-built and I just wanted to know if you coult have them connected on two different connections and still have a master slave relationship and such.

Oki then Ill kinda explain In your motherboard there should be 4 SATA slots - Small rectangular kinda shape - If you look at the motherboard closely you will see some headings like the following depending on he mobo SATA 4 SATA 3 SATA 2 SATA 1 Put the master on SATA 1 and the slave on SATA 2 that should work - Check in the BIOS if they have been detected if they havent - Make sure the wires in properly and also make sure that the mobo can support the Hardware The IDE connectors are for stuff like CDROMs and Floppys - If it can support SATA then you should only use SATA connections for max ability Im using a SATA HD as well and using IDE connections for only CDROM as thats what its for Any problems just post here - But this time post in your mobo name so i can look up the details on it easier that way u see GD Luck
Ok I know what your saying but I'm not sure if you get what I want. I have a SATA hdd as my main one (the one that came with my computer.) I bought an IDE hard drive and I want to put it in my current computer. Is that possible to put a SATA and an IDE hdds together and still have a master slave relationship.
O right i get you Neva heard of a IDE hard drive before You could try a trial and error Im sure u probably have a CDROM in one of the IDE slots so if u put the IDE HDD in slot 2 named slave it should work - If it doesnt you can try connecting it into another slot Ye it should work if you put it in a IDE drive just leave the SATA in as your master but put the other as your slave and that should sort it out Ye its possible
Try using your cd-rom and ide drive on the same cable with the hdd as the master. Make sure you check the jumper settings for the cd-rom/dvd-rom (whatever) and the hdd... set accordingly. Then use the sata drive as cable select. Use cmos to make the sata drive the first on the boot sequence (if that's the one with your OS, if not the then make the IDE drive first.) This should solve your problem. Oh, and if you can't find the jumper settings. Use device manager to find the make and model of the parts you need to adjust, and check the manufacturer's sites. They usually have info like that on all their products.
