Reformatting your drive will get rid of most problems, because all the data is deleted off your hard drive. I'm sure there are virus' that infect your HD and corupt it, but for most reformatting should do the trick, and is pretty much your best bet. After you get your system reformatted, install AVG AntiVirus(it's free) along with Adaware(also free) to try and prevent virus' in the future.

It's easy to reformat, just follow these instructions:

1)Reboot your computer then pop in the windows XP cd rom and wait till it loads and it will tell you to press any key to boot from the disc.

    2) When the options come up go to reinstall and it will ask you if you want to reformat your hardrive, you choose yes and the hardrive you want formatted then wait for it to install XP again.

    3) After everythings installed make sure you immediately go to windows update and install all the updates needed for your computer.

    4) Download McAfee virus scan and Adware SE Personal to keep unwanted spyware and viruses from corrupting your system.

    :)

the virus may stay on your computer if you format if it is programmed too. The best way to format after viruses is to make a win98 boot disc. Pop disc in at startup, run fdisk delete all partiitions, create a new logical one. Then run windows xp format.

BE CAREFUL, doing this WILL remove ALL your drivers for all devices, so unless you know the model name/serial number your kinda fecked...I did it and took me weeks to get my GFX card and Sound card drivers back =\
