ok i am lookin for a computer for 1 of my friends his budget is 900 i think it has to be gaming computer he wants to play cs:s and halflife two and all those games please help
umm, okay go to newegg.com find parts and put them together. for graphic card i suggest getting a 6600GT because thats the cheapest best graphic card you can buy, plus it can play cs:s and half life 2 no problem. cpu: amd athlon 64 3000+ venice memory: 1 gb 2x512mb pc 3200 400mhz motherboard: ASUS A8N SLI deluxe case: thermal take tsunami powersupply, get any power supply that has a power connector of 24 pin and make it at least 450watts and over. the rest you and your freind can do -dvd rom -cd rom -dvd re writer -hard drive -cooling etc....

hm..rather than spending on a decent case go for the lower one like the Soprano - The stuff inside matters not the case Go for the AMD64 3500 Venice core thats decent - Im running on that now very good Yep You need atleast 1GB memory or if low on $$ get a decent 512mb and that would run those games said Motherboard good - Running the A8N-SLI as well amazing features Go for a powersupply atleast 460-480W to meet demands for current and future use and go for a reputable company like Antec HD atleast 100GB+ Cooling - The Thermaltake soprano that i got has 3 installed fans - 2 big fans (1 front & 1 back) and another one installed on the side window (small) This cools m processor quite a bit and my other parts - My temp hasnt gone above 32degrees so far so good cooling GFX card - GO for a SLI compatible card for future use - hm.. i think the 6600 would do the trick even tho the GT version is better (i got the GT version ) atleast 128mb I hope this info will help

I hear they over clock really well. One x1800 over clocked to hell and beyond can actually outperform not one, but TWO 7800GTXs in SLi. I suggest an ATi x1600 GFX card
If he's spending around 900 on a computer... you should have no problem buying better CPU, ram, hardrive, or graphics card... you can do better than a 6600gt... ATI is better for gaming ne ways.

thanks. From what I know though the Venice core is in fact a revised version of the Newcastle core. The newcastle is 120nm and the venice is 90nm. This means the venice core heats up less and therefore uses less power. So it will be more efficient to purchase a venice core also I don't believe many places stock the 3500+ newcastle anymore.
I use eMachines for me (pssh to you custom people, i will get one soon!) best buy has one for $600 after a $50 mail-in Athlon 3500+ 1GB RAM DDR 200GB hard DVD Burner PCI-Express Slot then for $300, ATI x800 XL 256mb, (16 pipelines, you live a long time ) Takes up the budget and is awesome (if you need monitor... o well... ) Addition: its the one i use (still saving for the card, maybe price lower when x1000 series is more popular), it runs awesome for everything... and its not bad for WoW and Counter Strike Source.
