I have run McAfee, and SBSAD, but nothing comes up, nothing has been detected. when i press ctrl+alt+delete nothing happens, when i press Ctrl+Shift+Esc nothing happens, and wheni right click the startbar and click task manager nothing happens. anyone know what the problem could be? i accidently allowed something called winlog.exe, ithought i mistaken it for winlogon.exe, could that be the problem?

if it said that the task manager had been disabled by the administrator then it might be a virus.

    Hive: HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    Name: DisableTaskMgr
    Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1=Enablethis key, that is DISABLE TaskManager
Value: 0=Disablethis key, that is Don't Disable, Enable TaskManager

navigate to that registry key and change "1" to "0"

    Then it should work.

done that, it says another program is currently using this file? sounds like a virus to me... but McAfee hasn't detected anything.

actually i have had that problem recently and it is because of the winlog.exe and winupdates.exe which can be found in your hijack this log and also if you show your hidden folders under program files and see a winupdates folder you should delete it but yes winlog.exe is most likely the problem

there are more than one virus that do that, that has became a common trick because non-techs will assume it is another bug in windows. bus as I said, post a hijackthis log and I will see if it is a virus.

thanks for the help stan, but i figured it out. i started my PC, quickly pressed crtl+alt+delete, and it came up, and there was a think called setup wizard open, so i closed that, went to processes and ended the things that i knew were bad, and then deleted the files because they were no longer in use. thanks to everyone who posted here.
