    you can register for one at the steam site then you add serial codes to activate the games.
    Or you can purchase one here.

    ok you want a steam account a steam account is so that u can play counter strike source and various other steam games and all that you can pick up a steam client at www.planethalflife.com and you can also buy halflife 2 and you get one with that which is what i did
