Another suggestion: Don't say that you "think" you have what it takes. It makes you sound uncertain, as if you actually DON'T think you have what it takes. Just say "I have what it takes. I will fulfill this position to be best of my abilities, blah blah blah." Be assertive. People wanna see and hear a person that's sure of himself and determined, not some wishy-washy insecure dude.
My advice...not joking is to be yourself. No matter how smart you try to be...you aren't gonna get voted for if people don't like you. Just try to be popular...like honestly. My class presidents through high school were just the people who had the most friends. The people who were smart or tried to be what they weren't didn't win...cause well...no one liked them. Thats all the advice I can really give..
Wow a little on the overdrive ehhhh slurpee? I don't think that the point of his speech is to make jokes. The object is in fact to make the runner ups look as incredibly stupid as possible. That way he looks smarter than the others. Which I hope can bring you to your own conclusions. Hope this isnt considered advertising but lol find something in here Keep in mind that it is cheating though! http://www.speech-writers.com/C//index.htm [/b][/quote] Overdrive? Nope.. Not yet. If the students are voting for the person to be treasurer who do you think they're going to vote for? The kid who knows alot more then them, or a kid that seems friendly and has a sense of humor. I never said make your entire speach a joke, simply put in a FUNNY joke. He's only in elementary school.. I doubt that many people in his grade are mature, what do you think makes a bigger impact.. A bunch of big words? Or a joke? Vocabulary doesnt impress that many people in elementary. If the teachers picked the winner, then yea go ahead try to impress them by trying to look smart.
If the people vote for who's the friendliest and what not, then his whole class is full of idiots.. Logically, the position should be filled by whomever is the most qualified, and by whomever demonstrates that he will be serious about his job. Since it's 8th grade I don't suspect this job will be all that formal and what not, but still, any sensible person would vote for the most qualified person, not the person who makes them laugh the most.
Like I said.. It's elementary school, can't expect much. It's always been about popularity.. Even last year in my first year of HS.. This guy was elected for student council president because he made some funny jokes and got really popular from that ----.

Have you never been to elementary? I was in grade 8 only 2 years ago, I know how this ---- works. When the people are actually voting, are they going to remember the kid who said a really big word, or the kid who made a joke? Probably the kid who made the joke.. And once one friend votes for him, it will cause a chain reaction. One kid asks his friend who he voted for, other friend votes for same person.. Causing a chain. I'm not recommending you do a joke though, because you could make a really bad joke and make yourself look like an idiot. If you're a funny guy and have a sense of humour, try it.. If not, don't attempt it and just go with whatever else Comatosis has suggested. EDIT: Where I live we don't have middle school, or jr high as its called other places.. It goes grade 1-8 = elementary, 9-12 is HS. Though when I used to live in a diff region of Toronto it was grade 1-6 elementary, grade 7-9 or something like that at Jr high, then HS.
here is my opponets speech Hey 8z! How would like to have the best end of the year field trip ever??? Well, I can help you do that as your 8th grade class treasurer. As for most things in life now, you need money for a great trip. But, also need someone to take care of that money for you. I would like to be that person. I think that I am well qualified for the position. I am now in my second year of girl scouts, and am used to selling cookies, which in the end requires skills in handling large amounts of money in small denominations. Also, I have worked for two years at the East Aurora farmers market. There I have learned to make change and the skills to be polite, no matter who comes your way. I would also like to say that I am in advanced math and capable to do the simple addition and subtraction necessary, as well and the more complex issue of figuring out and charging the daily interest of unpaid dues. So, in conclusion, I'd just like to say: voting is Friday. Do you know who you're voting for?
