You may not know, but the hard drive is the slowest part of the computer, so when loading games your cpu won't have to wait as long for the data, thanks to this faster HD.
There is only 2 things I would change I would use my Case since that one sucks, and the GFX card isn't as powerful as my current one. However I'm going to look at that HD. I need at least a 256 meg GFX card.
Memory doesn't do anything if the processors aren't powerful enough to utilize it. You won't see that much of an improvement between a 128mb card and a 256mb card (If they use the same GPU). 256 is used when you run at high resolutions and high quality.
the one he picked out is a PCI-Express cards. those are faster than AGP, so you really don't need 256. 128 is enough if you are going to play only a few games... you only really need 256 if you are getting into gfx.
I am into GFX, Is the one that I have picked out currently good enough for some games such as CS:S, Hl2 and BF2. That is all I'm going to use it for may be some DoD and any good future games along with PS CS2 grahpics.
That motherboard will not do sli. I think he wants a motherboard that will in the future do sli. And with the graphics card a x700 Pro or XT would be better than a 6600LE as they are useless unless you can unlock some pipelines. EDIT* Found this gfx card. perfect for you will play almost anygame pretty well - eVGA 6600 GT PCI-Express - $139.00
i don't knwo what to tell you ownage, you're trying to get more of a computer for 600$ than you can, and you also don't know much about the components. I admit I m not a pro when it comes to GFX cards, but I am pretty sure that 160$ for a 256 bit card with SLi support isn't horrible. In full seriousness, you can't get a good gaming PC for under 700$(excluding OS which costs another 90 if you go OEM) but you can get an acceptable one. A GeForce 6600 is a fairly good card and if you ever get the cash, two in SLI will be very good, it's only 20$ more, just endure it, you don't need a case so you can save yourself a bit on that. Also, Radeon cards aren't SLi compatable yet just letting you know. FYI, SLi isn't exactly the newest thig there is, Voodoo had an SLi set out back in 2000, though it was aimed towards the mid/lowend EDIT: also, your comp won't run very well because it doesn't have a powersupply. I suggest getting a case that includes one. saw this, it is cheaper and includes a 480W PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811209018 EDIT2: what is wrong with this case? http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16811124113 it looks nice and smooth to me and it includes a PSU. Trust me, having a case without a cheap plexi-glass cover on one side won't make your gaming performance go down. Heck, my stupid plexi-glass side is almost completely against a wall.
Well I am trying to keep it low you know I have other things I want to buy. I mean I don't want to go out and spend like 2 grand on a comp. But however I don't need top of the line mobo I just need to be able to have 4 GB of RAM and have some SLI support. I do need a good GFX card and a big HD. But other than that I really don't need. Its really an upgrade. However I really need a good GFX card good mobo, HD and processor. Only those things need to be under 600-700.

[/b][/quote] your looking for an acceptable comp with upgradeability then, that is diferent. so far, your HD looks fine as does the proc and a 256bit 6600 wouldn't be that expensive. 130$ MSI K8 board with SLi wouldn't be too bad especially since it has integrated sound, so you won't need a sound card. really when it comes down to it, your biggest innefficiency you had was that fancy hollow shell you called a case. EIther of the two cases I just showed should be aesthetically pleasing enough and should pump out enough juice for a single card, though you'll likely want a new PSU when you save up for a better.new proc, more ram etc. EDIT: my friend was looking to buy effectively the exact same computer with a diferent case and a few other things, and he was able to get it for 750 I beleive, including the OS, though he didn't have an SLi complian mobo and he bought a premade from ubuypower or some site like that.
PSU aren't that expensive. However I would really like a good looking case, Maybe with a system that tells you like gfan speed and stuff, and has a good PSU. And ya the main reason I'm building this is to have a powerful comp now where I can play games such as I stated before and than when more powerfull games come out or I want to upgrade in like 5 years I can upgrade without buying a whole new comp like I'm doing now. Thanks for your help BTW +rep
you will likely want to upgrade before five years. My step mothers computer is about 5 years old and she can't buy ram for it at a decent price because it is out of general production.(100mhz SDram is hard to find, new atleast) plan on upgrading after 3 years or so, remember prices drop like rocks when it comes to computers, in 2000, a 1.5Ghz P4 cost over 1000$ retail, now you could probably buy a used comp(everything) with that proc for about 100-200
yeah, and they always come out with new and better technology, so you will almost always have to buy a bew computer at least every 5-10 years to stay ahead of the technology. But as I always did, only buy it when it has been out there for a couple years. Same with software. So they get it as close to perfected as it will get.
