Here is just something i whipped up because i thought alot of people would like to know it. Feel free to add to it. How to make a board successful. To make a board successful, a variety of things must be done in order to get your site up and running with members. First, your board has to be unique and un-like any other board you have come in contact with. Boards with there own style and ideas are the most successful because you can’t find one anywhere else like it. To make it un-like any other you have to make sure you have a layout that is organized but not like another site. Custom templates or paid for templates are top of the line these days. Free templates represent unprofessional sites that the owner is just board and looking to do something with spare time. If you want a site up and running dedication and heart must be put into the individual forums or your board will be “trash”. Finding different modifications for your board such as Ibstore, Ibarcade, etc. Are always things that members appreciate. This will be the start to a great board. A major part of boards these days are domain names such as: .com, .org, or .net. They represent professional work in care in your board. Sub-domains single purpose is so that your boards URL address isn’t long. .com domains show care and show you want your members here. You can find great domain prices and great hosts to go along with them. Another great idea is hosting it yourself, but it will take work. Linux is a great program for hosting, but must have certain servers to do so. Advertising is key but beware of the consequences advertising holds. Never go to another board and personal message advertise. It shows lack of respect for ones board and is the same principle as spam in your email. Do not post advertise without permission or if there is a separate forum for it. If not done so, again it shows lack of respect for another’s hard worked on board. Making affiliates is important but do not make a whole forum for them. It is a waste of space and makes the board look cluttered. Care, dedication, and pride in your board is what makes boards successful. If you want your board to have a widespread community, take care of your board or like most boards, it will fall. If you guys have a look in the templates section, mr.cheeky made a post that is now pinned (second one down) in an easy to follow page, with stuff that I added too. Your does touch on stuff we hadn't gone into such as personal dedication and care. But have a look when you have time? Daz
