Hi everyone, I was bored as hell and MaynardTOOLS was on the IRC chat so I asked him if I could interview him =). It was really nice to talk with him I really enjoyed this. BUILDS LETTERS ARE MY QUESTIONS/COMMENTS UNBUILDS LETTERS ARE MAYNARDTOOL ANSWERS! Well, Hi MT. How's it going? Fine for me, bit sleepy ... It's hard to wake up at 6 in the morning every days of the week. Anyway, how bout you =) Pretty good, enjoying a boring Friday night at home by myself. Uhm okay, won't go into details about that loll... Haha Anyway, first question. How did you come up with your name, MaynardTOOL sounds weird to me. Well, I've been a long-time fan of the band TOOL. Maynard James Keenan is the lead singer of Tool, and someone I've looked up to for a long time. I decided to make a play on words with the two, and got MaynardsTOOL. I used it on one forum, and it just kinda stuck from then on. Wow, really nice =). Well here's a really basic question, since how many months are you designing ? I mean, with Photoshop I started using Photoshop almost 3 years ago. I believe it'll be 3 years in December. 7.0 from then til now. 3 years long compared to me =O. Who's your biggest source of inspiration, I think we all know that your works is really inspiring for many GFX maker, but where do you take your inspiration? I get my inspiration from stuff around me mostly. I've been in love with art since I was young. I've loved to draw things that I see, and things that come into my mind. When it comes to photoshop, I look at artwork I see daily, advertisements, and just natural things. What do you love the most at GameRender which keep you active I guess ? The Sig Of The Week contests and some of the users keep me at GR more than anything. Sounds nice =), good luck in this SOTW by the way. Let's get into more personal stuff. Tell me where you live/age and your interest apart from artwork. I, sadly, live in the small town of Chester, South Carolina. I lived in Charlotte, NC for 13 years before I moved here, and it sucks. ;_; I'm 19 years old. My interest outside of art.....video games, girls, drinking, music, and my friends. Ahhh well sorry to see that you don't like your town lol. Any sports that you like/practice particulary? I played Soccer for 3 years in High School, and play on an intramural team with some of my college buddies. I also ran Cross Country for 2 years Cross Country *falls asleep* hee, looks good. You have a girl friend? Not at the moment. I just got out of a 1 &1/2 year-long relationship with my ex-fiancee about 2 months ago. Sad to hear this =(. I guess I'll change subject =). If there's anything that you would change in the world, what would it be? Anything in the world? I'd change world hunger, as cliche as it sounds. I'd also get rid of poverty, oppression and racism as much as possible. What a nice guy you are lol, and what wouldn't you change at all ? I love heavy metal, metalcore, hardcore, progressive rock, classic rock, death metal, black metal and especially tech metal. I cannot stand any country, and most rap. LMAO country... It is seriously not a big hit in Canada so I can't really tell but it's a really funny style in my opinion. What about school, what grade are you if your still in school and what are you studying in ? I'm a sophomore in college at the moment. I'm majoring in graphic design, and minoring in illustration. Alright, lets get back to graphics. Here's a big question, do you plan on leaving GameRenders ? Not anytime soon, no. I'm sure it'll happen in the future sometime, especially if I move out of my parent's house like I plan. Ahhh, that wouldn't be fun =(. What's the biggest thing you hate on the forum? Well, there's a lot of things I don't like. One that irks me in general is the lack of self-control and respect some members have for others. Some members are extremely childish (even though they are young, they're pushing it too far), and spam. I also despise the shorthand type that LOTS of the members type in. Topic names that don't tell what the topic is about is another one. The list can go on and on, but I'll stop. I see, yeah I heard that it is really different from the past, how was it in the past? I heard everyone was giving out free things to help each other and it was a strong community that would back each other and keep it friendly between everyone Well, I've only been at GR since January I believe. Back then it was less spam-filled, a lot of the credit-whoring wasn't around as well. People weren't so obsessed over them , that's for sure. Well we wont go too far in the subject so it will keep this interview clean but I think you got a point on people obsessed by credits =). Who's your favorite artist at GameRenders Well, he's done with gfx for the most part, but Irrel was my all time favorite I think. Great friend, and great at graphics- he and I had many epic battles. I'm also fond of bloodandiron, miller, gator, and nica's work. They're all fantastic designers. I probably forgot a few names I want to mention, but they just escaped me Sweet, miller and you are my 2 favorite artist lol =) as well as CLIPSe. Anyway, I think we are mostly done right now.
