Hi I'm Sirbob, Myself I use to make Sigs (tags) back in 2005-10. I (always dream) have plans to bring back Sigs. @ 130x400... way back in 2005 it was 100x400 Sites like this There is (was) a great synergy here of people teaching and learning this type of art and the trade. Common ground is based in art and often when designers taste sync up. Sport, Music, TV, Anime, Movie, last but not least Games being the focus. Issues This world in now a generation old * and has been in a slow death for 6 years. I assume for MANY their experience is within these last 6 years of decline skewing perspective. They might base their opinion on percentages of "Child" ups and downs. There was once 1,000,000 Sig designers with art software. and no number I could of placed on those would liked or used another's sig at some point. Renders I don't mean to disrespect the broader use of renders. * 15 year old kids of 2005 and now 26 and have kids and a day job. Slow Death The death was executed by social media. You will respond: THIS, this here is social media. This is a form of social media, but it became dated when the next gen of SM arrived. It was open ended and BASED not on subject but on people and had everyone on it; Bros, Girlfriends, and Grandma on it. Moving Forward Art didn't die right? Where is the synergy at then (where is this still happening)? How can we get back what was lost? The answer is; it moved more toward "Self" Sites that highlight the designer more. Promote and pay them. FB, Twitter, Patreon, Twitch Stream, Pure portfolio art sites. What is lost is the freely giving of personal insight on specific works. I think using SM sites as a tool would help. Pulling hashtag content from SM sites could help create content on this site. I have added this thread to my email notifications Side note: this site has some value because of its legacy. I would recomend holding out in case Sigs(tags) ever became a thing again. This site would have the inside track.
I've managed to avoid kids. I do have a day job. What's interesting is that I actually have managed to incorporate art into it.
Good point... Now that I think of it... there arent any facebook share buttons here Could make the page more populair again. Need to tie it in with facebook/insta or other media. I mean... people still game..more then ever.. so people would still like gfx made a learn how to make them.
Aye ,but I can't see many people mixing FB & GR, some people like to keep their online personas hidden away from reality But damn, I still love Photoshop and would love to keep improving!
I think doing SOME promotion on social media would be a decent idea. Doesn't need to be anything crazy, just enough to get some fresh blood here... and maybe pull some old blood back.
Great perspective! I am humbled by the few members that are still on here, checking out the site. I love seeing that! I would love to get this site back up and going. Do we still continue as a forum(I think so), of course there are now a better forum software out there that has alot of better features then this old vB forum that can attract the old and new members. I just want to know if Rendering in general is a dead thing.
Not sure.. kinda left the gfx world in 2008 after my own site crashed. Maybe focus less on renders and more on gfx or profile photo editing?
it isn't the forum aspect, dA gets 100's of new members daily that love posting everything art related, its more 'who will do the dirty work' and start generating content for the site staff run a site, without staff you can't have members and vice versa, i haven't made a signature in 7-8 years but everyone enjoys art, from desktop/mobile wallpapers to meme's
