GR can still be a gaming related website. I'm currently staff on a gaming website that averages around 20,000 posts / 5,000 topics a day with over 1 million registered members. We also have a GFX section where people can discuss GFX, show off their work, request GFX and offer GFX services. It's proof that GFX is still alive. Many people here "grew up" and don't do signatures anymore, but there are still plenty of people that do.

Also add some gaming forums and start releasing news articles (gaming/technology related). If you have an active enough front page (job of staff) then more members are likely to visit the forums.

Also go more professional. Many here, (including myself I must admit), aren't always nice to people. You have the ability to warn/ban for a reason. A forum where members go ape shit on each other doesn't really encourage guests to sign up.

I don't know what the **** happened to this place but it once was so active and alive. I guess this happens to all forums. I feel your struggle Shaggy I've tried and failed to run forums and it's so hard to get them active.

You need something unique and a service that users will want to use.

I think the only way to get this place of the ground is with advertisement money. Advertise this forum via Facebook newsposts and google etc and it will help it expload..but first...something worth people signging up for. What? I don't know yet.

And it's been ages since I even looked at this site. It's still in my favourites though.

I may or may not have been involved in this...

But Yeah there is still a place for gaming forums, but is it worth the switch when there are already so many large gaming communities, both for single games/genres and more overal gaming forums. I know they can still work but is it worth starting something new next to titans like reddit's /r/gaming (and related subs) or 4chan's /g/?

    Also Hi Nica! How's Flevoland?

i think this has been said before, but no one uses renders anymore. They were primarily used for signatures. On top of that, most of us have grown old and have better things to do than sit all day behind our desks with the fucking pen tool in photoshop.

    Thanks, but no thanks.

Either way, if you want to keep the community going somehow, focus it on graphics. Inline graphics in videos. It's all about the tumblr generation. Social media is the bomb.

Then again, none of us (somewhat techies) are into that entire hype, so your demographics you are focusing on are completely wrong.

I don't know. You can't kick start this community again. You will have to create a new one.

    EDIT:

My signature looks like shit. Oversaturated and the font... THE FONT

Wow, I've completely forgotten about this site. And to think I used to spend so much time on the forums...

My idea is to broaden the scope of what the site's doing. It used to be about sharing graphics resources and making forum signatures. Well try to expand on that. Encourage making artwork, boxarts, webdesign, illustration, that sort of stuff. Hold competitions again. Create a website to support the forum and update it with graphics resources, related news items, works of the members...

    Hey Shaggy,

    I'm the owner of 22pixels.com.

My site suffered the same fate, though years ago. Sadly, individual forums have been killed by reddit, stumbleupon, facebook, twitter, pinterest, and every other web 2.0 site. They have a much lower barrier to entry. They're simpler. Most importantly, they don't allow signatures.

Thus, our forums and resources are declining in demand. You can't create demand from nothing.

You can try and market what you got (a ton of renders) in another way.

As much as I hope emailing all the members of a forum would bring it back to life, it won't. You have to keep up with the new world.

I've since moved on to create other projects, apps, things like that. But you can bet I'm itching to bring back the old days of thriving forums with dedicated members. How can we possibly do that in this new web era?

You can contact me at my personal email address at [email protected] (no dashes) if you would like to talk in private.

Yea, but for a short period of time. I am never going to give up on making GR an active forum again. Just need to find that thing that keeps people coming back.
