If you don't know what to do with it or how to use it, than don't waste your money, you'll just create a huge headache for anyone you host (if thats what you plan on doing with it)

Don't even attempt to do it man, 256mb? Most servers have like 2gigs-4gigs, and a 80 gig HD, and Celerons bad :\

Pfff... S1lence, I already used a 400mhz 64mb ram server and it worked fine... And the best way to turn your computer into a server is to get Linux Apache Php Mysql (LAMP). You can use windows too, just get apache and configure it, then install php and mysql

If ur tryin for a webserver (like u said) than that comp is fine for it. I hosted one for a while using a:

    700 MHZ Intel Celeron Processor
    256 MB RAM
    30 GB Fireball HDD
    56X Sony CDROM
    256 MB nVidia GeForce 4
    10/100 Lan Card

I used Windows XP Pro and tweaked it till it ran smooth. I personally used IIS 6 (which was built in) and Zone Alarm ™ for a firewall. I used the two sites listed below to figure out just how to tweak it. I dont remember what FTP or other software I used. Hope this helped.

(Some of this information helped on this site, be careful what networking services u disable)
