Should I get one Raptor X, for around $305.00 after the rebate at newegg.com, or should I take two 74GB Raptors, at around $155.00 each(adding to $310.00), and set them up in RAID 0. Basically, what I want to know, is which will give me more performance here, for everyday use, and for gaming. Thx.

do what you want, they are almost both identical... i think having a single drive rather than two raid 0 drives is better, but i never used raid, so don't quote me on it...

id get the dual... sometimes its better to have two hardrives, run ur games off of one then ur other ---- off of the other one theirfore ur comp would be quicker when opening programs.

Yea. I like having two instead of one big one personally.
Good for backups/system/maintanance on one, and games and some programs on the other.

He said Raid 0. I doubt there will be much backing up going on. LOL

If you get two Raptors, and use a RAID 0 configuration, if one hard drive goes out, then you're screwed.

Ok, let's get something straight here, because this is how my last thread got me nowhere.

I know the dangers of having a RAID 0 configuration. The only thing I need here is, the performance of these two different setups. I need to know if my OS, Games, ect., will perform better in the RAID 0 configuration, or the one Raptor X.

Neither, get the WD1500.

hardware specs of both the raptor X and the wd1500 raptor ARE IDENTICAL. 3rd party tests back that up. if you insist on getting a raptor X you are quite superficial, the onyl diference is cosmetics, save the 50 bucks...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822136012

get that, I have it its fast, fastest raptor there is. then in a year or two, when the price goes down buy a second and RAID them THEN.

in 99% of cases the two raptors would outperform a single WD1500 or raptor X, FYI, but performance*capacity/cost is lower on each indivual raptor, hence the recomendation to get a single WD1500 and to plan on upgrading to two in RAID ina year or two when prices fall I'm using a single one and it's pretty damn fast alone.

But, if you want the performance, know the issues, are willing to set it up, and you want to do it, get two now... it's a lot better in my oppinion. I am on the 0 setup as we speak. Nothing beats.

a single WD1500 with TWICE the cache of the 740s offers a bit nicer of an upgrade route... assuming you don't plan on dropping a few hundred on a RAID card in the future to add more 74GB raptors tot he array
