    Depends on the situation ...

    If crashed/frozen etc something similar to this - You MAY lose some data

    If however you are just messing and u keep hitting the power button then Data Corruption could occur dramatically

    Corruption will occur anyway :D SOme PC when u shutdown it tells you to press the power button but most are different

    Thought it was that if you had some work and didn't save it in the last ten minutes and you switch it off through the power button, then you lose that data

    if u don't save then u will lose data, if u press the power button on my pc it shuts down normally instead of just cutting off

    ATX mobos normally shut itself down when you press the buton. If you hold it down for 5-6 seconds, it will turn off.

    Any writing to memory will be lost, or a copy from folder to folder will corrupt it.

    In control Panel-> Power Options, it gives you a choice of when you press the power button:

    Do Nothing
    Ask me what to do
    Stand By
    Hibernate
    Shut Down

    why do you ask? You want to mess up your sibling's computer? :P

    Faster = Yes
    Better = No

    Corruption will be the source of computer failure if you do that - If however you corrupt one of your system files then you will be hitting your head on the desk ;)

    tbh it wont hurt once or twice but if you do it over and over then it WILL leave damage after time..............i suggest u shut down normally............and if you cant and the pc has frozen what i do is hold the power button in until it turns off then take the pressure off.............i dunno what this does but my dad says it is better than just pressin the button

    better to shut down from windows, lets the OS end all the running processes before it shuts down, than just hitting the button.

    in any typical situation, it won't do anything bad, I turned off a computer like that for a few years with no harm, but I wouldn't do that to be safe and I do not do that anymore. just spend the extra 5 seconds.
