I just got my first HD TV (Sony KDL26S3000) and I'm a little confused on the wiring. do I need an HDMI cable to connect my cable box to my tv if I want to watch HD tv? do I need to do anything to make my xbox 360 run in HD other than flip the switch on the component cords to HD? when I go to input one (xbox 360) it says 480p SD, does that mean my xbox isn't running in HD? how much do HDMI cables cost and can I get them from free (cable company/TV manufacturer)
do you have the 360 elite cause they are the only ones that have hdmi connections otherwise you can use component wires the red blue green wires and it will be in HD. I dont see a 1080i or 1080p resolution for your TV so change the display setting to 720p
you have to look on your cable box like on mine its doesnt have any hdmi connections so I have to use the component wires red/blue/green its still in HD
yes does your your cable box have hdmi connections because your TV is only 26" you propably wont notice much difference between the component wires to the HDMI espicially since your TV doesnt support 1080i or 1080p resolution. There is a big price difference also the cheapest component wires from monster cable are $35 where as the cheapest HDMI are $75
thanks for the help. I don't know anything about TVs I have AUX AUDIO IN SPDIF AUDIO OUT L and R VIDEO DATA S Video IR I don't have red blue green... just red white yellow Merged Post: lol I don't want to have to wait until tomorrow when comcast is open and exchange my box lol please tell me I have component. I know I pay for HD programming
Well im not sure what cable company you are with, but im pretty sure you can be paying for hd without the HD box. Though if you are paying for HD tv then its more than likely that you have a hd box. I have an hd box as well, do you have ports called component which are red, green, blue, etc... on your box and tv?
If its a bravia, it should have a HDMI on the back, at least mine have. If i remember correctly, when i bought it from PC richards and son, the guy told me all HD bravias have HDMI cable that came with them, so im guessing if they come with the cable, they have a slot.. If you ordered the HD package from comcast, they should come and give you the HD reciever. Check on your cable box if it says HD, if not, you cant use HD on your TV until they give you one. Xbox 360 doesnt have the HDMI cable hookup, the ELite does
ok thanks guys I'm exchanging my box for a newer once since mine is about 5 years old and doesn't have HDMI thanks for the help (btw the tv does have 2 HDMI inputs but no cable came with it)
in that case, you can get a small HDMI cable for like 10 bucks in a store, or tell the cable guys to give you the red blue green cables to connect for HD the experiance. and btw, no cable from 5 years ago supported HD lol I think, they have different cable boxes in different areas, not sure tho, so it might not be the right box, just saying
lol yeah mine is very old. we bought HD programming from Comcast but they gave us a box with no component or HDMI? is there any other way to get HD tv? just wondering. this is my box
