    ok i am trying to install linux along side windows media center. it is Ubuntu 6.06 LTS it says you can install it along side but i follow the instructions all the way through but i dont see it anywhere. even on the cd cover it says "The default installation will erase all existing software and data from your computer. If this is not what you want, follow the instructions carefully during installation. but i never see any other options

    If you have the configuration most people do, then you will need to reformat and then repartition.

    You'd start with windows, booting from the CD, and while installing it, partition your hard drive into two partitions instead of just one. Install windows to one of the partitions.

    Then in the Linux install, you're going to install to the second, unused partition.

    No time to go into heavy detail, but thats the jist of it.

    i have to partitions i have windows C drive that comes with windows and then i have D and E E being a bigger partition. ill try again here in a minute
