Socket LGA 775, with a compatible chipset (975x, not all boards support it.

I know Asus and DFI is a good brands so I suppose their mobo's will be good. Most boards that are conroe compatible are crossfire compatible, there are very little (none, not sure) mobos that have sli.

Asus makes very nice Intel 975 boards (aka. badaxe). They are quite expensive right now tho.

unles you just bought your board liek a week ago I doubt it. Boards which support conroe all have intel 965 and intel 975X chipsets. Also 975X was released a bit back, only the recent revisions of boards with that chipset support conrie.
