Should I Get This Server ?

    alright guys i wanted to get a server just for my family so we could back up our pcs and just possibly share files


    now here is the server i am buying

    2xSocket 603 Xeon-Foster core/1.7Ghz/400Mhz FSB/256k L2 Cache
    Tyan S2603 Motherboard (HP X4000 systemboard) Intel I860 chipset/on-board sound/2 USB ports/
    768MB Rambus
    Atlas 10K II 16GB SCSI HDD
    Atlas 10K II 36GB SCSI HDD
    BFG Nvidia 6800 256MB Graphics Card DVI and VGA
    Lite-On DVD-RW 16x
    Windows XP Professional cd with license


    all for $450, now i will proably hadd more ram and hard disk but just to start off what do you guys think ?

    there is a cheaper way to go

    is you family all in one house, if so...

    buy an external hard drive

    and you can share files if you set up on a router, im too busy to tell you how but u can just look on google

    I suggest going with no video card for a server, not needed. Also, go with fedora core, I believe it's free, or much cheaper than XPPRO. Maybe get a 150GB raptor instead too? Just my ideas.

    yeah ill just sell the video card becuase its a server and not my gaming rig

    and xp pro ill change that too, also bigger Hds

    but aside from that is that a good buy for $450 ?

    You're better off just not getting it. but anyhow. Using the money you save from XP, get bigger HDDs
