Hey, just found this: Conroe isnt even out yet and this dude has a kentsfield processor which should be released in xmas 2007! http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=103982
That link isnt working for me right now, neither is extremesystems at all actually at the mo, ill try it again later.
Hmm its wierd, doesnt also works for me now, but it did worked when I posted. Its just a quadcore conroe, with in total 4x4 mb l2cache = 16MB!!! he overclocked it to 3.2 without changing the voltage and ran some benchmarks. Merged Post: Its working again.
works i cant decide between a quad core or a conroe what do you all think i was thinking of the EE conroe
Erm... that is a "QUAD CORE CONROE" wouldn't that make the decision easier concidering you are talking about the same thing?
my bad i thought they were not in the same line. i think i decied that i will get a E8000. and a Badaxe MoBo
no, it's a quad core conroe with 2*4MB cache for 8mb cache total. it truly is insane by current standards... and will need a lot of software optimization... for AMD, the onl thing they can hope for is for k8L to be a huge performance boost over k8, and for their anti-HT technology to be fully functional, which if so would tip the scales back in their favor(two 6GHz logical cores vs 4 3.3Ghz physical cores isn't exactly fair in a single threaded or dual threaded enviroment)
And with any luck we can expect software that will actually take advantage of all the new technology by Q3 2013 ...
if even that, parrelelism is a bitch to implement in hardware and software is falling farther and farther behind, performance wise, software is further behind now than it was originally, lots of code bloat and innefficiencies. until we can get CAD into software development this will continue. as it is right now, it's effectively impossible to thread a game as everything has to match up in timing. it's impossible to evenly distribute the load between multiple threads and wahts to say that even if it was that one core wouldn't be utilized in part by something else, or that even then if it weren't that it would perform 100% equally to the other? again parrellelism is really hard to implement in software...
Thats right, but some people already have this core. @xelinktempacc, I thought conroe uses 4mb per core/ 2 core's in a normal core (e6600) so 8mb l2cache. So you have 4 cores (quadcore) so 4*4 = 16mb cache, but I think you're right anyway, 16mb would be great but I dont think its possible now.
