does anyone know why the border around my images is black? this never used to happen... whenever i expanded the canvas for more working space, the outside colour was gray but now its completely black and its really annoying to work with.. 40 credits to whoever helps me fix this

it is, make a new layer, 'cause that one is locked. now, i'm assuming you've made a new doc and then enlarged the image. the reason its black is cause you have black as your background colour. If you had opened a new doc, then made a new layer, then enlarged it, you would have the normal transparent grid.
