This kitten was born with only one eye and no nose. Named Cy—short for Cyclopes—it’s shown here in a photo provided by its owner in Redmond, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005.
The kitten, a ragdoll breed, died after living for one day. It was one of two in the litter, and its sibling was born normal and healthy.

Cyclopes' pet or something? Hmm.... genetic mutation probably took the other eye.

And obviously having one eye doesn't make you stronger
So Evolution tried something, failed. Next step, 3 eyes :)

You dont think that a photo-chopped image? Ya know like that 500lbs cat that was all over the net like a few years back...*shruggs*
i suppose genetic mutation made its eye open after 1 day also?

That kitten is kind of cute.
Source, please.
I can almost guarantee that it's photoshopped :\
One thing, the eye is way too big and wide open. And a kitten's eyes (or eye in this case) doesn't open after one day...

You folks don't read, do you?
Have any of you seen a newborn kitten? Chances are, if you answered "yes", then you weren't one of those who said "Omg cute but said i want 1!!!!!!!!!", right?

I have a one-eyed cat...
But he had to get his eye surgically removed since cancer grew in his eye. Not a birth defect...
That monkeylike animal is freaky. Supposed to be a cat? Eurgh.

aw how sad but than again nature gives and takes live
OMFG!!! BLOODY HELL PEOPLE. It's not friggin real!!!
Jeez... if you knew anything whatsoever about newborn kittens you'd immediately know that. <_< God :|
If any of you actually took the time to read my last post, their eyes take a couple of weeks to open. Apparently it died after one day, wtf? Its eye is open and fully developed. And a source isn't even posted. I wouldn't believe anything news related posted here without a reliable source.

Defenately a photoshopped pic..
A kittens eyes don't open up for days after it's born, not hours. Not until the cones and rods are fully developed, which are not fully formed at birth <_<

A photo of a one-eyed kitten named Cy drew more than a little scepticism when it turned up on various websites, but medical authorities have a name for the bizarre condition.
"Holoprosencephaly'' causes facial deformities, according to the US National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
In the worst cases, a single eye is located where the nose should be, according to the institute's Web site.
Traci Allen says the kitten she named Cy, short for Cyclops, was born the night of December 28 with the single eye and no nose.
"You don't expect to see something like that,'' the 35-year-old Allen said by telephone from her home in Redmond in central Oregon.
Allen said she stayed up all night with the deformed kitten on her recliner, feeding Cy a liquid formula through a syringe.
She says she cared for the kitten the next day as well, until it died that evening.
Allen had taken digital pictures that she provided to The Associated Press.
Some bloggers have questioned the authenticity of the photo distributed on January 6.
AP regional photo editor Tom Stathis said he took extensive steps to confirm the one-eyed cat was not a hoax.
Stathis had Allen ship him the memory card that was in her camera.
On the card were a number of pictures - including holiday snapshots, and four pictures of a one-eyed kitten.
The kitten pictures showed the animal from different perspectives.
Fabricating those images in sequence and in the camera's original picture format, from the varying perspectives, would have been virtually impossible, Stathis said.

I wonder what actually killed the kitten (because the eye obviously didn't). There must have been a more lethal mutation within the kitten to cause its death.
